03 · The product

It looks like this.

Printed in a highly realistic handwriting-style font on yellow paper — the original yellow letter format that’s been generating motivated seller leads for real estate investors since 1986. Personalized with each recipient’s name and property address.

Sent first class, every envelope. Recipients open it because it doesn’t look like marketing mail — it looks like a personal note from someone they should call back.

04 · Why this format

They get opened because they don’t look like junk mail.

A yellow letter is exactly what it sounds like. Lined yellow legal-pad paper. Real handwriting-style cursive in red ink. A real first-class stamp on a cream envelope, addressed by hand. No window. No barcode. No logo pretending to be a return address. All the tells that scream bulk mailer — missing on purpose.

For 40 years that combination has done one job: get past the junk-mail pile (the part that goes straight from mailbox to recycle bin) and into the part where someone actually reads it.

What goes in the envelope

  • The letter — short, personal, signed in cursive. Looks like a neighbor wrote it. Reads like a neighbor wrote it. Says one thing: I’d like to buy your house, please call me at [number].
  • The envelope — cream, A2 or A9 depending on the campaign, addressed in the same handwriting font. Return address pre-printed on the back, no name above it by default. (Most response-focused mailings leave the name off — it feels less corporate.)
  • The list — your list. Upload a CSV, XLSX, or whatever your skip-trace tool exports. We auto-detect columns, dedup, and let you remove rows before printing.

What it isn’t

  • Not a postcard. Postcards say marketing at a glance. Yellow letters say personal note.
  • Not typed. Typed letters say form letter. Cursive on yellow paper doesn’t.
  • Not digital. The whole point is the physical artifact landing on a kitchen counter.
05 · Pricing

No setup fees. No nonsense.

Three ways to mail. Same yellow paper, same handwriting-style font, same first-class stamp on every envelope. Pick the tier that fits how often you send.

What our operators say.

Switched from a competitor and my response rate doubled in the first campaign. Sellers tell me they thought it was a personal note — that’s exactly why it gets opened.

I’ve been mailing through Yellow Letter for 12 years. They’ve outlasted three of my CRMs, two of my websites, and one marriage. Still my best lead source.

Closed three deals from my first 1,000 letters. ROI was something like 28x. I’ve stopped buying Facebook leads entirely.

07 · Frequently asked

Yellow letter questions, answered.

What is a yellow letter in real estate?

A yellow letter is a direct mail piece on yellow paper used by real estate investors to reach motivated sellers. Yellow Letter prints each piece in a highly realistic handwriting-style font so it looks personal in the mailbox rather than like a marketing piece — which is exactly why response rates run far higher than standard printed mail. Yellow Letter pioneered this format in 1986 and has been mailing them ever since.

How much does direct mail cost for real estate?

Yellow Letter is $1.52 per letter, which includes the letter, envelope, yellow paper, realistic handwriting-style font, personalization, and first-class postage. Custom pricing is available for high-volume buyers (10,000+ letters per month), teams, and brokerages. There are no setup fees and no contracts.

What response rate do yellow letters get?

Yellow letter campaigns can deliver response rates of up to 20% on top-performing campaigns — significantly outperforming standard printed direct mail (typically 1–3%) and digital channels because the format bypasses the "junk mail" filter recipients apply to obvious marketing pieces. Response rates vary by list quality, market, offer, and follow-up cadence.

Who uses yellow letters?

Real estate wholesalers, house flippers, buy-and-hold investors, real estate agents, and brokerages use yellow letters to generate motivated seller leads. Any real estate professional looking to reach property owners directly — whether for off-market acquisitions, listing opportunities, or farming a neighborhood — benefits from yellow letter direct mail.

Are yellow letters actually handwritten?

No, and that’s an important distinction. Yellow Letter prints each piece in a highly realistic handwriting-style font that mimics the look of a personal note. We don’t claim to be hand-writing thousands of letters — we’re honest that it’s a printed product engineered to feel personal. The realistic font, yellow paper, personalization, and first-class postage combine to get the mail opened and read.

How fast do yellow letters get mailed?

Standard campaigns ship within 72 hours of approval. Custom-tier campaigns are scheduled in coordination with your account manager based on monthly cadence and volume.
